Musical Play! A sneak preview

Updated: Jul 15

Emma is sharing a snapshot of masses of ideas to enjoy LOUD 'n soft in musical play...

Dynamics is a musical term that means loud or soft... In everyday life we hear an enormous range of sounds that are loud, very loud, quiet, very quiet, or somewhere in the middle.

Thinking about these experiences as musical is the starting point for introducing musical ideas to children in your care. When working with loud and soft, try to focus on both as the opposite of each other.

Wiggly Woo!

Have a go at singing 'Wiggly Woo' available on Spotify Try changing the dynamics as you go along! Note that the words in the previous example and the song here differs slightly. In our course there are lots of ideas you can enjoy with the same song.

Lyrics:

The quiet dynamics at the beginning of the piece reinforces the idea of fine (small) motor (physical) movement and a tiny creature.

(Pianissimo is musical for very quiet!)

There’s a tiny little worm in the garden,

And his name is Wiggly Woo.

There’s a tiny little worm in the garden,

And all that he can do is...

(Fortissimo is musical for very loud!)

Wiggle all day,

Wiggle all night,

Wiggle, Wiggle, Wiggle,

Oh what a fright!

There’s a tiny little worm in the garden,

And his name is Wiggly Woo.
